Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Pipe Inspection
Fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) pipes are used for various applications, including municipal, chemical, and industrial piping, oil field tubulars, and motor fuel underground piping.
TKS provides visual inspection and acoustic emission testing services for these FRP pipes.
TKS conducts the visual inspection procedure according to the Fiberglass Tank and Pipe Institute’s Recommended Practice FTPI-2007-1, “In-service inspections of Aboveground Atmospheric Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Tanks and Vessels”.
TKS provides certified external global visual inspection to examine and document the entire exterior of the pipe for general appearance, geometric distortion, and local defects. The surface hardness measurements are carried out according to ASTM D 2563 using the Barcol Hardness Tester.
TKS provides a comprehensive condition assessment of the FRP pipes by combining the aforementioned external and internal inspections. Internal visual examination is coupled with Barcol hardness testing and acoustic emission testing.
Acoustic emission testing is performed according to the following procedures:
ASTM E1067-01: Standard Practice for Acoustic Emission Examination of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Resin (FRP) Tank/Vessels
ASME RTP-1-2007: Reinforced Thermoset Plastic Corrosion-Resistant Equipment
Our American Society for Nondestructive Testing-certified inspectors have complementary training in fall protection, rope access (SPRAT), and confined space entry.
